The LNG carrier Green Energy Sea was named and delivered at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding on Changxing Island in Shanghai on October 20, 2026. It is the second vessel in phase two of CNOOC’s LNG carrier project supporting medium- and long-term free-on-board (FOB) supply arrangements.
The delivery brings the total number of ships handed over under the 12-vessel project to eight, taking deliveries to two-thirds of the planned fleet. The project is China’s largest LNG carrier construction program by scale.

Green Energy Sea measures 299 meters in length and has a designed LNG carrying capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. It uses a latest-generation cargo containment system, although that specification alone does not establish its operating efficiency or cargo performance.
The delivery milestone matters primarily for the shipping arrangements supporting CNOOC’s contracted LNG resources. Under FOB arrangements, the buyer generally organizes onward shipping from the loading point. Additional vessels can therefore help align transport availability with cargo collection requirements, depending on their deployment and operating schedules.
Eight completed deliveries demonstrate progress in building the planned fleet. They do not, by themselves, establish a corresponding increase in LNG imports or actual transport volumes: those outcomes depend on vessel utilization and cargo schedules.
Four vessels remain to be delivered within the project. Subsequent deliveries and the deployment of the completed ships will be the clearest indicators of how construction progress translates into shipping capacity available for the associated LNG supply arrangements.
